Everyone loves Greece, loves her culture, her hospitality.
Come to Greece in the country of the sun, love and enjoyment.

Thirteen years ago a cultural with its own character made its first appearance on our island.
Today it has become a sort of tradition and it is considered an integral part of Symi and its history. Symi’s Festival lasts 3 months during which on the musical scene of the port’s main square well known artists perform ( such as the Greek worldwide famous Greek pianist, Giannis Sgouros).

Up to now several well known artists have honoured our festival with their participation, both Greek singers and composers such as Nana Mouschouri, Giorgos Dalaras, Stavros Xarxakos, Maria Farantouri, Giannis Kotsiras, Vassilis Papakonstantinou, Dimidra Galani, Elli Paspala, Savvina Giannatou, and many others. Many Greek actors have also participated in Symi festival (Lakis

BEACHES & NEARBY ISLANDS

· Aghia Marina

A charming, rocky little island near Yialos with chapel Aghia Marina and crystal clear waters. There is small taverna. This beach can be reached by water-taxi or by walking (around 45 mins) from Pedi

· Aghios GeorgiosDisalonas

Perhaps the most impressive beach because it has a vertical rock 300 m

· Nanou

Spacious, picturesqe bay with scattered wild cypress trees.

· Marathounta
This is a very quiet beach, reachable only by excursion boat or by road (the over –land “truck trip” to Panormitis will usually call here for a picnic lunch.
There is a small tavern.

.
Panormitis

Small, secluded bay ideal for swim and a visit to the Panormitis monastery.

Sesklia
A small islet on the southern tip of Symi with crystal clear water. Only reached by boat.

· Nimos

Small islet on the northern tip of Symi. Pebbled beach.

· Aghios Aimilianos

Extremely picturesque-a small island with a church connected to the mainland by a stone passageway-nearby you will find Maroni bay.

· Aghios Vassilios

One of the most beautiful beaches, lying on a large and deep bay framed by mountains and scattered wild cypress trees.

. Pedi Bay

The village of Pedi has a small shingle beach and is easy to reach either by bus or taxi or on foot. Boats depart here for the beaches of St. Nicholas and St. Marina. The Symi –Bus stop right next to the beach and there are number of taverns right on the beach.

· Nos

Beach - allegedly the local (nudist) police chief is trying to make this the official nudist beach and has also renamed it Paradise beach or something. It is a series of sun beds adjoining a tavern and situated with a road just above so perhaps not ideal for nudists - certainly never did notice anyone stripped off when we walked by it on several occasions. Easily reached since it is at the
end of Yialos harbour on the Emborio coast road.

· Nimborios Large, pleasant pebble bay at 25’ walk from Symi port. Reached by road, taxi or taxi boat.

· Aghios Nikolaos Sandy beach with shade provided by trees.

Reached by walking from Pedi or taxi boat.

MUSEUMS

It Is worth paying a visit to the Archaeological and Folklore Museum situated in the parish of Lieni of Ano Symi. It is housed in masion where the visitor can admire noteworthy Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine works all as folklore material.
The museum’s entrance leads to a courtyard paved mosaics, where ancient and Early Christian sculptures are displayed.
The museum’s first room is dedicated to ancient times and includes heads of statues, ancient grave stales, etc. The second room refers to monuments of the Early Christian, Byzantine and post—Byzantine period.
The third room is dedicated to post Byzantine art and presents icons from this period, small relics manuscript books, etc. In the fourth room there are depictions of the island on travellers’ maps (15th-17th century), ship models, etc.
At last the fifth room presents folkloric material reflecting the island’ past.

The Naval Museum is in Yialos and has miniature carved wooden models of ships, instruments and tools of naval craft, an old diving outfit and all the accessories of traditional sponge - fishing.
